SCHOOL PROGRAMS

I MET AN AUTHOR TODAY! (Preschool--Kindergarten)

Half-hour program that includes songs, hand-plays, reading of three or

more books with coordinating activities.

A VISIT WITH THE AUTHOR (Grades K-2)

This forty-minute program introduces kids to several aspects of writing life.  They will learn what three things every story in the world needs. With the help of a puppet, they will experience why Lisa became a writer. The program includes the reading of at least two books.

MAMMOTHS AND DINOS AND RESEARCH, OH MY! (Grades 2 and up)

In this 50 minute presentation, Lisa shares her passion for woolly mammoths and the research involved in writing her non-fiction title, Mammoths On The Move. This two-part program also shows how research can also be necessary when writing fiction, as Lisa shares her popular title, Dino-Hockey. Q and A included when time allows.

FACT OR FICTION: RESEARCH IS YOUR FUZZY FRIEND (Grade 3 to 6)

Using stories from her own experience and poems from her own books, children’s author, Lisa Wheeler, hopes to take the fear out of research. “It’s important for writing not just non-fiction but also fiction. Kids are surprised by that.” Just for fun, students get to play ‘Fact or Fiction', where they’ll be introduced to strange (but true?) animal stories. This one-hour program includes Q & A time at the end.

FAQS ABOUT SCHOOL VISITS

Will Lisa travel for school visits?

Yes. Lisa loves visiting kids all over the country. The school pays for flight, lodging, and meals as well as author fees and a per diem.

Does Lisa sell books?

No. But I do include information on ordering books for school visits in my contract packet. When incorporating an author visit as part of your school literacy program, it just makes sense to encourage and foster a love of reading and books. A great way to do this is by continuing the excitement by giving kids an opportunity to take home a signed book of their very own.

What about lunches?

Lisa eats light while traveling. A great lunch is either a grilled chicken salad or wrap (with dressing on the side!). Plus coffee. Lisa loves coffee!

Also, while I do not mind eating with teachers, I prefer not to lunch with students as I need a little downtime between presentations. If your school usually includes an author lunch with kids as part of your program, that is fine, but please set aside a separate time that I can eat alone.

How about Virtual School Visits?

Yes! Virtual visits are also age-appropriate. They are a variation on the programs listed above. I've had to adjust because of the medium. I charge per session for virtual visits with no extra fees.
